Military Developments
Israeli Operations
- The IDF is striking regime targets in central Tehran with unprecedented force, which may indicate a possible change to weakening the regime and empowering anti-regime forces in Iran. Key sites targeted include:
- Basij headquarters
- Evin Prison (holding political prisoners and regime opponents)
- The ‘Destruction of Israel’ clock in Palestine Square
- Internal security headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards
- Headquarters and other assets belonging to Iran’s internal security forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
- The IDF assesses that numerous IRGC soldiers were killed in the Tehran strikes.
- Strikes on access roads to the Fordo facility, stating the attacks were meant to “disrupt” the site’s accessibility.
- On Monday morning, Israel targeted Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility, confirmed by Iranian officials and other sources, a day after the US struck the same site.
- The IDF attacked six airports across Iran (western, eastern, and central regions), causing damage to runways, underground bunkers, a refueling aircraft, and various fighter jets (F-14, F-5, AH-1). The IDF stated these strikes were designed to strengthen Israeli dominance over Iranian airspace and to destroy aircraft that could be used against Israel.
- More than 15 IAF fighter jets also targeted surface-to-surface missile launch and storage sites in Kermanshah, aiming to diminish Iran’s ability to launch ballistic missiles.
Iranian Attacks
- Iran continued to attack Israel, but the scope of these actions appears to be diminished. A recent Iranian strike early Monday included just one ballistic missile, a notable drop from previous barrages. However, a barrage later than morning included approximately 10 missiles.
- Strategic infrastructure was hit, with Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen reporting that approximately 8,000 people in southern Israel lost electricity due to missile strikes near a critical facility.
- An Israeli unmanned aircraft (UAV) was downed inside Iranian territory, according to an IDF statement on Monday morning. The IDF confirmed that there was no intelligence leak from the incident.
- Early Monday, the IDF downed a drone launched toward the southern city of Eilat, preventing it from entering Israeli airspace. The origin of the drone was not specified.
- On Sunday, an Iranian missile barrage resulted in 86 Israeli civilians wounded.
- According to different reports, Iran sent a message already at the G-7 summit that if U.S.A. will get involved in the conflict, it will operate sleeper-cells inside the borders of the US
US Reactions
- President Donald Trump publicly mused about regime change in Iran on Sunday night, writing on Truth Social: “It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”.
- This statement marks a significant shift in American messaging, raising the specter of regime change – a controversial topic to Trump’s base, in which “regime change” is seen as the first step in “forever wars”.
- In contrast, other top US officials sought to reassure the public that the US is not at war with Iran. Vice President JD Vance told NBC’s Meet the Press, “We’re not at war with Iran,” while Secretary of State Marco Rubio described recent US strikes as “not a regime change move.” This divergence is probably less a reflection of an internal debate and more likely intentional dual signaling to both US allies and adversaries.
- The US began evacuation flights for American citizens from Israel and opened an online form for registration.
- In Lebanon, the US Embassy ordered family members and non-essential staff to leave, highlighting concerns over regional escalation and Iranian proxies.
- The New York Times, reported that American intelligence indicated that Iran-backed groups in Iraq were preparing attacks on US bases.
Details about US Strike
Israeli and US coordination was critical in the recent strikes. Israeli officials told The Jerusalem Post that once the US had decided to attack the Iranian nuclear weapons sites, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer convinced President Trump to target Iran’s Isfahan facility as well as Fordow. American forces struck locations that were reportedly inaccessible to Israeli assets, with Israel providing essential intelligence while maintain air superiority throughout the US attack. Multiple high-level calls took place between US and Israeli leadership, underscoring full operational cooperation and mutual reliance during this phase of the campaign.
Geopolitical Reactions
Israel
- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation in both Hebrew and English, emphasizing that Israel “will not be dragged into a war of attrition” and intends to end the Iran conflict as soon as the core objectives are met. “When we achieve the goals, we will not continue with actions beyond what is necessary. But we will not finish too early.”
- Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s dual objectives: (1) eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat and (2) defeating Hamas, including securing the return of all hostages. He thanked President Trump and the United States for their robust support and operational partnership.
Iran
- Foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said the US had “crossed a very big red line” with its bombing raid and that now was not the time for diplomacy. Araghchi said: “The door for diplomacy should be always kept open. But this is not the case right now.” Iran “reserves all options to defend its sovereignty… for as long as necessary”.
- Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to Supreme Leader Khamenei, warned that Iran may retaliate for American attacks by targeting US bases across the region. Velayati declared: “Any country in the region or elsewhere that is used by American forces to strike Iran will be considered a legitimate target for our armed forces.”
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
- According to chief Rafael Grossi US bombing likely caused “very significant” damage to the underground Fordo uranium enrichment plant in Iran, but the full extent is still unknown.
