Lieutenant Adar Ben Simon, a 20-year-old from the township of Naveh Ziv in the North of

Israel, was a platoon commander in the Homefront hospital at the Zikim military base, and

she is also a Homefront search and rescue officer. When Adar and the other commanders on

the base realized that terrorists had broken into the premises, they decided to protect the

new recruits under their command and ordered them all into the base shelter. In addition,

some 30 survivors of the Nova massacre had arrived at the base as well, joining the others in

the shelter. Thanks to the actions of Lieutenant Adar and her fellow officers, the lives of

some 120 people were saved. After a 40 -minute fire exchange with the terrorists, the latter

were repelled, and a Southern command force arrived on the premises and evacuated the

wounded and dead. Adar and another six commanders paid with their lives to protect the

others. Adar was awarded a posthumous Lieutenant rank. May she rest in peace.
