Golani fighter Amichai Rubin fought while fatally wounded and sacrificed himself to protect others

Corporal Amichai Rubin, 23 from Acre, was at the outpost, near the Gaza border,

when the Hamas attacked. Due to the misguided artillery shelling, all the soldiers ran into

the base safety shelter without their firearms. Amichai was one of the first to engage with

the terrorists, armed with his personal firearm and he and another officer and soldier

defended the other soldiers, entrenched in the safety shelter. During the fire exchange he

was hit in the leg but continued fighting while crouching on his unharmed leg. He then took

a bullet to the head but continued fighting for another 20 minutes until he collapsed. He

arrived at the hospital on Saturday afternoon unconscious and was declared brain dead. He

was awarded a posthumous rank of sergeant. May he rest in peace.
