Elad Avraham, one of the Nova music festival organizers, explains that as part of the security prerequisites for the music festival, 30 policemen and 80 security guards – among them four armed guards – were at the compound at the time of the attack. When the rocket fire began, the organizers shut down the party and with the aid of the police and security, began evacuating the compound. However, within minutes, pickup trucks packed with heavily armed terrorists arrive on the premises. Avraham took part in the fighting alongside ten of the policemen and three security guards, and witnessed his friends being shot before his eyes. Four of the policemen died on the spot, and Avraham used their firearms to fight the terrorists.

They escaped the area in a car with four of the partygoers, dropped them off at the nearby kibbutz and returned to save others. He joined forces with the Israel Prison Service Masada unit, from which he received a gun and together they engaged to terrorists, who meantime took over the festival compound. The fighting lasted at least an hour and a half, during which the eight-person team fought some 30 terrorists, and yet were able to take out all of them without a single casualty
