Early Saturday morning, Ohad Braverman awakened to the sound of explosions and gunfire. Recently discharged from Unit 669, the military rescue unit, he put his uniform on, armed himself, and searched the area. He was the first to discern eight terrorists who had penetrated into the kibbutz, and he alerted the emergency squad’s security coordinator. Together with the squad, he fought the terrorists on the kibbutz, and after a fierce battle the terrorists, surrounded, made their stand in the area of the swimming pool and adjacent park. Ohad and the emergency squad lined up to form a barrier opposite the terrorists, separating them from the perimeter road so that no terrorist could exit or enter. In that fighting, two of the emergency squad were wounded. At midday, the last of the terrorists was eliminated, but the emergency squad continued combing the kibbutz late into the night.

Kibbutz Alumim had been invaded by roughly 30 terrorists who intended to slaughter the residents, but the alertness and quick response of the emergency squad largely foiled their plan. Some 16 foreign laborers living close to the kibbutz were murdered by the terrorists, and eight were abducted to Gaza.
