Suffering from a wave of burglaries and auto thefts, Moshav Ein HaBesor enlarged its emergency squad to 78 members and increased their hours of nighttime patrolling. When the rocket attack began on the morning of October 7, 2023, the entire emergency squad was rushed to the fences. Terrorists intended a murderous attack against the moshav, along with the other communities in the area. Four dozen terrorists arrived in pickup trucks, armed with anti-tank missiles and grenades. In a heroic, well-targeted, and relatively brief battle, the emergency squad fended off the terrorists at the gate and at the fences. One seriously wounded member of the squad was hurried to Soroka Hospital, leaving by ambulance through the back gate while defended by another vehicle as 30 terrorists chased behind on motorcycles. The lives of the wounded man and his defenders were saved as they left the road and drove over the fields where the motorcycles could not keep up.
