Saar served as the security coordinator for Kibbutz Kissufim for 11 years. Although he no longer held this position on October 7 when the war broke out, he immediately responded when he heard suspicious sounds outside his home. He made sure his wife had a weapon, instructed her on its use and showed her how to lock the door of the protected room from the inside. Saar then donned a vest and a helmet and teamed up with Shai Asher, another member of the rapid-response team. IDF forces arrived in the afternoon hours and both men joined up with different teams. Later, Margolis joined up with the 450th Battalion and together approached a home where the terrorists were holed up. The fighters split into two smaller forces, entering through separate doors. Margolis, leading of one of them, encountered heavy gunfire and was killed on the spot along with three members of the 450th Battalion.
