Major Amichai Yeres fought at the Kissufim outpost during the October 7 attack, filling in for the battalion commander, who was on leave. He led the fighting at the outpost and the kibbutz, and continued to fight even after sustaining a leg injury, applying a tourniquet to his wound and continuing to lead the battle. His wife and their baby girl, who were visiting with him for the holiday, hid in the base until they were rescued on Saturday night. He continued to lead the fighting until the battalion commander arrived at midday, and was evacuated to hospital only on Sunday morning. Eight civilians and eight soldiers lost their lives in the battle. May their memory be a blessing.
