Staff Sergeant Yoni Golan, a tank commander in the 77th Battalion, under the “Storm from Golan” Brigade, was in charge of a tank at the Nahal Oz post. When the post came under attack on the morning of October 7, he and his crew fought off dozens of terrorists who invaded the post. The tank was hit repeatedly by antitank fire, and in the end, the crew decided to abandon it but Staff Sergeant Golan did not flee together with the rest. He remained alone in the tank to provide cover for them, continuing to shoot at the terrorists in order to enable his comrades to escape. He was killed by fire from the terrorists. May he rest in peace.
