Police Unit 33, an undercover force known as the Gideonim, was sent on the morning of October 7, 2023, to eliminate terrorists at the Black Arrow Memorial, a monument located between Kibbutz Kfar Aza and the city of Sderot. But when they reached the monument, they were called upon to rescue hostages — two children and their parents — at Kibbutz Kfar Aza. The unit dispatched a squad there. Five terrorists had taken up a position inside the house and were attacking the door of its safe room. They rained massive gunfire on the door, while the father was gripping the handle inside. Having established communication with the family, the police squad burst in with heavy gunfire, threw grenades, and overcame the terrorists. The terrorists were neutralized, some were killed, and the family was taken safely from the house.
