On the morning of Saturday, October 7, 2023, Lt. Col. Ido Saad, previously the Paran Brigade commander, embarked on a routine bicycle ride outside Moshav Yated in the Eshkol region. He was unarmed. Immediately after the first barrage of rockets, he saw a van with terrorists shouting “Allahu Akbar,” and at an intersection, he saw a damaged car whose driver was dead. The terrorists signaled for him to approach, but he managed to escape. Saad then encountered rave partiers and soldiers on leave, one of whom was injured, and he evacuated them to a nearby field under fire but could do little more, because he was unarmed. He tried to secure assistance from the army for hours, and three hours later, finally managed to receive assistant in evacuating the wounded.

Later, he took a weapon off a neutralized terrorist and joined up with the Maglan special forces, engaging together with them in battle against the terrorists. Ido Saad continued to fight and evacuate the wounded all night, from Netiv Ha’assara, Yad Mordechai, Kfar Azza and other places.
