As soon as the attack started, Elia Ben Shimol the security coordinator mobilized the eight members of the emergency squad plus four more fighters who had stayed to watch over the kibbutz. They discovered tens of terrorists on motorcycles who had blown up the wall that separates the Gaza Strip from the fence of the kibbutz, and in a long battle they managed to eliminate most of the terrorists. Some other terrorists successfully penetrated into the kibbutz and shot at the residents’ houses until also being felled. The battle lasted six hours, and in the end all 22 terrorists were eliminated. The residents at home stayed behind closed doors, and thanks to the squad members’ skill and courage, they all survived. Two emergency squad members were killed: Moshe Yedidia Raziel and Amichai Yisrael Witzen, who had been good friends in life. May they rest in peace.
