When terrorists stormed the Sderot police station on Saturday morning, Superintendent Shoshana Mali was duty officer. At 6:30 a.m. she arrived at the station to start her shift. A short while later, the city came under heavy rocket fire and at the same time terrorists began an attack on the station. Together with six other police officers, she climbed to the roof of the building, and from there they shot at the terrorists who were trying to reach the station. The police lay on the roof for hours, as dozens of terrorists surrounded them and some even entered the building. Two officers on the roof with Mali were killed, and Mali was hit in the arm. When the terrorists had captured the station and some climbed to the roof, Mali and other wounded officers — with almost no ammunition left — pretended to be dead. Eventually, they were rescued by forces of the Special Police Unit. Seven officers from the Sderot police were killed in the battle against the terrorists. May they rest in peace.
