On the morning of October 7, 2023, fighters from the motorcycle unit of the Border Police‘s Tactical Brigade were called in to reinforce Kibbutz Nir Am, near Gaza. They came quickly on their motorcycles from all over the country and for roughly an hour they battled terrorists and evacuated the wounded under fire. Numbering only 13 fighters and equipped with limited ammunition, they defeated 37 heavily armed terrorists and succeeded in preventing an invasion of the kibbutz. In the battle, counterterror instructor Roman Gendel of the tactical unit lost his life. May he rest in peace.
