Police Superintendent Eyal Aharon’s two sons attended the Nova nature party on Saturday, October 7, 2023, where 270 partygoers were murdered. They fled into Kibbutz Re’im and took refuge in one of the buildings along with 11 other survivors. Their father made contact with them and understood that they were surrounded by terrorists. He assembled four fighters from the Special Police Unit, and at the entrance to the kibbutz they already encountered a three-man terror squad armed with RPGs but they neutralized those terrorists and advanced toward the house where the nature party survivors were barricaded. Outside and inside the house, however, were some 20 terrorists who were shooting at the safe room and had wounded the civilians who were sheltering there. The police fought the terrorists for roughly four hours until army and rescue forces arrived at last, the Nova survivors were evacuated under fire, and medical treatment was administered.
