Chief Inspector M., from the undercover unit of the Border Police, worked guard duty at the Re’im nature party. Shortly before 6 a.m., he left and was replaced by his wife, who is also a police officer. When the attack began, he started driving back toward her; but along the way, terrorists attacked him with gunfire, RPG fire, and explosives. He was caught up in a battle inside Kibbutz Afikim, but he and other fighters finally managed to eliminate five terrorists or so and begin the rescue of a number of police officers, who were trapped inside the home of the Edri family.
Meanwhile, his wife sent a message saying that she was under fire and had a bullet wound in the leg. He assembled some fighters and weapons, and they set out together toward the Re’im party site. Along the way, they fought fierce battles with the terrorists at a number of encounters, some at close quarters, but his ammunition ran out and he took a bullet wound himself in the scalp. In fact, all the fighters with him were also wounded, but they continued aggressively, risking their lives. The squad did manage to locate his wife and bring her to a car, where he managed to provide first aid and evacuate her to a hospital.
