Sergeant Major Amir Deeb, of Peki’in, headed south immediately when the attack began on the morning of October 7. In the area of Kibbutz Urim, he found two soldiers who had been wounded in a skirmish with terrorists and evacuated them to Soroka Medical Center. Just afterward, he returned to the same large area and managed to enter the IDF post at Kissufim under fire. With courage and determination, he first rescued those who had been injured during the assaults, successfully extracting some 20 civilians and soldiers. Later he set about also evacuating women and children, relatives of the IDF officers from the Kissufim post, who had been spending the Sabbath there, and brought them away to safety.
