When war erupted on that Saturday morning, the tank crew from Battalion 77, 7th Brigade, was ordered to gird its loins and move the tank to the border. They saw a motorcycle heading toward them with a terrorist squad, and they fired a shell at it. A moment later, an RPG hit the tank from a Hamas drone and knocked out the motor. The gunner, Corporal Eyal, was ordered over the radio not to stop operating the cannon. Opposite them, they saw a column of 8 or 10 pickup trucks inside the barrier, each carrying 5 or 6 terrorists in the back. Eyal shot at them, and the terrorists hid behind an embankment. From among 30 or 50 terrorists there, some ran toward the Gaza Strip and some toward the fence. The tank came under heavy fire, including mortar shells, and having no alternative, the crew of four, under 2nd. Lt. Yotam, left the tank and hid in the bushes. From there, they saw dozens of terrorists swarming the area. After some hours, another tank came and rescued the crew.
