Noam David, a student at the Ein Prat pre-military academy, set out for the massacre sites on October 7 together with the head of the academy, Erez Eshel. They rode in a pickup truck as far as the Zikim military base, and there Eshel — a Colonel in the reserves — found an ambulance. They began extracting many of the dead and wounded from the scene, with Erez driving the ambulance and Noam following in the pickup. One of those they brought out of Zikim was Michal Alon, who had been shot face-to-face by a terrorist. She had been staying at the base with her family since they arrived the day before to bring Sabbath Eve cheer to the soldiers. After three rescue trips from the Zikim base to Barzilai Medical Center, David and Eshel moved on to Zikim Beach. One of the wounded there whom they rescued, a soldier named Noa, had suffered a head wound and her condition was critical. Hospital care saved her life. After sundown, they reached Kibbutz Be’eri, and while IDF forces were battling the terrorists inside the kibbutz, they evacuated more wounded people from the scene, including one woman from the kibbutz who was pregnant.
