Lt. Col. Eli Ginsberg was on leave on the morning of October 7, 2023. Two weeks earlier, the former Shayetet 13 officer completed his position as commander of the LOTAR counterterrorism school. Upon hearing reports of the terrorist incursions, he rushed from his home to defend the Gaza periphery communities, and fought in the Sufa outpost and later in Kibbutz Be’eri. Lt. Col. Ginsberg took the lead in the fighting, displaying great bravery and leadership. He fell in battle when a terrorist shot him from the bushes, but his courage and sacrifice paved the way for the team following him. The force successfully neutralized the terrorists and rescued the numerous residents trapped in Kibbutz Be’eri. He is survived by a wife and four children. May his memory be a blessing.
