Aner Shapira, 22, a fighter in the Nahal reconnaissance unit on leave, shielded dozens of young people who fled from the Re’im rave party and hid in a shelter. The Hamas terrorists targeted the shelters with rifle fire and hurled grenades inside time after time. Each time, Aner threw back the grenade with his bare hands, displaying immense courage, composure under fire and self-sacrifice. He did this seven times. The eight grenade killed him.
