Yonatan Elazari from Alon Shavuot was on leave from basic training over the Succot holiday and went to visit friends at the Ke-Eyal pre-military academy in Ofakim, where he had studied before joining the army. When the alarms sounded, all the students of the preparatory academy and guests hurried to a protected space. A short time later, shots could be heard from the street, and it was clear that a battle was raging. Elazari, who was unarmed, ventured outside to fight the terrorists only with stones in his hands. He came across an injured policeman and took his weapon, although unfamiliar with its operation. He climbed up to the roof of the building and for hours targeted terrorists with the rifle he had taken. His lifeless body was found a day later, surrounded by numerous bullet casings. May his memory be a blessing.
