Lieutenant Colonel Yarden Shukrun and her soldiers fought valiantly against murderous terrorists at the Urim military bases and Ofakim
Lieutenant Colonel Yarden Shukrun, commander of the Shachar Battalion of the Search and
Rescue Division, a resident of the city of Ofakim and a mother of three little children, was at
home on October 7 when the news of the terrorist attack started arriving. She immediately
left her family in the home safety room and made her way to the Southern Command HQ at
the Urim military base. Upon noticing the bullet riddled vehicles on the way, she warned her
subordinates not to take that route and opt for alternative roads, most probably saving lives
by doing so. On the way she picked up two fighters from her battalion, and despite the
heavy fire overhead they reached the gate of the base, where they encountered heavy
small-arms and RPG firing, and were attacked with IEDs. The small force under Lieutenant
Colonel Yarden Shukrun’s command engaged with the terrorist and eliminated four of them,
proceeding to protect the base. Later that day, she arrived at the city of Ofakim with her
soldiers and began cleansing the city of the terrorists. Currently, most of the battalion is
taking part in the fighting inside Gaza.
