On October 7, Yuval Balachsan joined the Kibbutz Sufa security team to defend the kibbutz from the Hama terrorist attack, leaving his pregnant wife and young son in their home safety room. When the commander of the security team, Eliyah Leventhal, informed the team that he had eliminated four terrorists, they thought that the event had ended at that, not knowing that this would just be the beginning. Balachsan fought alongside the members of the security team for 12 hours straight. Other then Eliyah Leventhal, the other members who fought alongside Yuval were Ido Hovra, who was killed, Oded Lavie, Michael Berman, and Micha Laufer who joined them at a later point. The first IDF forces arrived after six hours. In total, 20 terrorists were eliminated inside the kibbutz and another 10 were captured. After the fighting was over, Yuval rejoined his family in the home safety room, where they had to remain until they were rescued the next day.
